Frequently Asked Questions
Our potential customers often have similar questions, let’s answer those.
When should I replace my roof?
A typical roof in Southern Alberta will have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. There are a few signs that your roof needs to be replaced. If your eavestroughs are full of granules or if there are piles of granules at the base of your downspouts this is a sign your roof needs to be replaced. Another way to tell is if your shingles are curling, either up or down. If your shingles are blowing off your roof, this is a sure sign that your shingles are not sealing and should be replaced.
How much does a new roof cost?
Roofs come in different shapes and sizes. It’s impossible to know what your roof will cost without a thorough on-roof inspection and measurement from Z&J Roofing. However, the average roof will cost somewhere between $6000 and $14000. Roof size, pitch, and type can all affect pricing. If there are more valleys, or more hips, these can increase the costs of having your roof replaced. Another factor to cost is whether or not your current roof can be dropped into a garbage bin from the roof. If a “Ground-Drop” is needed, this will increase the cost to get your roof replaced.
In Southern Alberta we often come across multiple layers of roofs. This decreases the lifespan of the roof and adds unnecessary weight to the support beams of the house. If your roof has multiple layers, this will increase the costs to have your roof properly replaced.
Will an inspection determine if I need a new roof?
Yes! Absolutely! A roof inspection will tell you a lot about your roof. After a roof inspection we will be able to tell you if your roof is properly ventilated, how many years until your roof needs to be replaced, what factors may cause your roof to prematurely fail, the brand and colour of your existing shingles, and the cost to properly replace your roof.
What kind of new roofing products are there? What choices do I have?

I’ve decided I need a new roof, now what?
Z&J Roofing makes the process simple and easy so that you don’t have to get off the couch. We start with a free On-roof review and measurement. From that measurement we generate a quote. After receiving the quote, we are happy to answer any and all questions you might have about your new roof. We offer a complementary in-person or online consultation where we can choose products and colours, answer your questions and explain all things going into your new roof. After you are happy, we will schedule the start date, order materials, and prepare for replacing your roof.
How far in advance should I book my roof?
A typical roofing season goes from Spring to Fall. Roofing companies are extremely busy, and can often book up BEFORE the season even starts. Think ahead and book as soon as you know you want your roof done in the upcoming season. Don’t wait until your roof leaks, book now with Z&J!
What products do you use?

What is the best shingle for Southern Alberta Wind and Weather?

I need my roof done quickly, how long does it take for a reroof?
Re-roofing your house is an amazing transformation. An average roof would take 4 days. Pitch, size, and details such as hips or valleys may increase this time.
